Genesee, CO Community

March is almost here, and Genesee is already warming up for it. Between St. Patrick’s Day festivities, open trails buzzing with early spring wildlife, and a full lineup of events just a short drive away, there is a lot worth planning for this month.

Here is everything coming up, so you can get ahead of it before the calendar fills.

This Weekend: The Lake Plunge Is Back on March 1

You have three days to decide if you are brave enough. The Lake Plunge returns on March 1, 2026, at Evergreen Lake from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, rescheduled from its original New Year’s Day date. Participants dress in their wildest costumes and jump into icy water to raise money for INSPIRE, a local nonprofit that funds inclusive recreation programs for people with disabilities.

You do not have to jump to enjoy the event. Spectators are welcome, hot drinks are on hand, and the crowd energy alone is worth the quick drive from Genesee. If you are participating, register through EPRD before you show up.

Go Green: Three St. Patrick’s Day Events Near Genesee

The foothills celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a big way this year. Here are the three events worth putting on your radar:

  • Shamrocks & Shenanigans | March 9, 2026 | 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM | Downtown Evergreen: Local shops and restaurants hide stuffed leprechauns inside their stores. Find one and win prizes, gold coins, or exclusive discounts. Bring the family, dress in green, and make it a full evening of exploring downtown Evergreen businesses.

  • Father Daughter Dance | March 13, 2026 | 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM | Evergreen Lakehouse: A family favorite hosted by EPRD for kids ages 3 to 12. Dessert and drinks are included, and fancy dress is encouraged. Advance registration through EPRD is required, and spots go fast.

  • Shamrock Shuffle | March 17, 2026 | 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM | Evergreen Lakehouse: St. Patrick’s Day line dancing led by instructor Treena McCurdy. No dance experience needed at all. Just wear green and show up ready to move. Register early online before it sells out.

Hit the Trails Before the Crowds Arrive

Early March is one of the better times to explore Genesee’s open space before peak season hits. The Genesee Foundation maintains over 1,200 acres of protected land and 12 miles of trails throughout the community. Elk, deer, and wild turkey are especially active this time of year, so keep your eyes open and your phone charged.

Trail conditions can shift fast in March. Pack layers, check for ice on shaded sections, and let someone know your route before heading out.

Day Trips Worth the Short Drive Down I-70

Genesee’s location along I-70 makes it easy to take advantage of what’s happening across the Front Range:

  • Denver Restaurant Week | March 6 to 15, 2026: Hundreds of Denver restaurants offer multi-course menus at set prices. Book reservations through Visit Denver early since popular spots fill up within the first few days.

  • Denver March Powwow | March 20 to 22, 2026: One of the largest Native American cultural events in the country, held annually since 1984. Free admission and open to everyone.

  • Jefferson County Library Programs: JCPL runs free and low-cost programs throughout March at 12 locations, from kids’ art studios to adult tech classes and virtual book clubs.

Quick Tips Before You Head Out

  • Register for EPRD events now, since capacity fills quickly

  • Check COtrip.org for road and I-70 conditions before any drive

  • Pack layers for all outdoor and evening events through mid-March
